Our baroque concerts are all performed using the period instruments and techniques applicable to the later part of the 18th century.

OUR LAST CONCERT FOR 2010 . . .

We welcome back the Choir of Christ's College Cambridge, directed by David Rowland, for our final concert, following the success of our collaboration last September. Two Bach works frame the programme - the G Minor Mass (one of the four short 'Lutheran' Masses) and the famous cantata 'Wachet Auf' (Sleepers Wake). This work calls for 3 oboes (actually 2 oboes and oboe da caccia), so the Consort will be playing a Telemann Concerto for 3 oboes, 3 violins and continuo. Zelenka's music was much admired by Bach, so the choir will be singing his 'De Profundis', in which the choir is scored with three bass parts, accompanied by an orchestra of strings, oboes and organ. All the vocal solos will be taken by members of the choir.
